Becoming a donor was an easy choice for Steve Kimberling

To honor the life of a close friend who lost her battle with cancer, Kimberling has created a mini-fundraising campaign among friends and colleagues. He’s hoping to raise $100,000 for cancer care, in memory of Denise Cassatt-Maciel.

Business owner, father and health care supporter Steve Kimberling says becoming a donor to Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka, California, was an easy choice. As one of the owners of Eureka Payments, a credit card processing company, Kimberling brings outside dollars into the local economy—a factor he believes to be critical for growth in Humboldt County. Making generous and ongoing contributions to the hospital goes beyond his personal appreciation for the care his family has received.

Kimberling says helping fund needs in local health care is just smart business.

Ensuring health care providers have the latest equipment and technology means top quality local care, which attracts new businesses, physicians, and more, helping our economy grow.

“I think there is no farther reaching, long-term impact you can make with a gift benefiting our community than to give to local health care.”

Kimberling has previously donated in support of Neurosurgery, the Emergency Department, the Childbirth Center and more. His latest philanthropic passion is focused on supporting cancer care.

Impressed by the fact that cancer treatments currently offered at Providence St. Joseph Eureka are on par with Stanford and other large medical centers, Kimberling’s mission is two-fold: to support an even higher level of local cancer care, and to help spread the word about what is already available.

“People just don’t realize how good we’ve got it here; they aren’t aware of the incredible cancer program already in place. I just want to help it grow and to encourage others to give to make it even better,” said Kimberling.
