Congratulations to Our Champion
Ellen Mahoney, M.D., named 2026 Philanthropy Physician Champion
Ellen Mahoney, M.D., medical director of the cancer program at Providence St. Joseph Hospital, has been named the 2026 Providence South Division Philanthropy Physician Champion in recognition of her two decades of dedicated service to cancer patients and her profound impact on the Humboldt County community.
For 22 years, Dr. Mahoney has been a trusted and renowned breast cancer specialist and surgeon in Humboldt County, positively impacting the lives of thousands of women navigating a breast cancer diagnosis. Her reputation for compassionate, exceptional care extends well beyond the walls of the hospital — she is a fixture in the community and a physician whose dedication inspires deep loyalty and gratitude in patients and families alike.
That gratitude is perhaps best reflected in a meaningful tribute from the Crichton family, longtime Humboldt County philanthropists, who chose to honor Dr. Mahoney’s vision by establishing The Dr. Ellen Mahoney “Garden of Hope” — the embodiment of her belief in creating spaces where cancer patients can find hope, solace and healing.
Celebrated by donors, patients, colleagues and hospital leadership alike, Dr. Mahoney exemplifies what it means to be a community physician. We are proud to honor her as a true champion of Humboldt County.
